When did you realize you were from a ghetto a** family?

I literally have tears in my eyes thinking about the BBQs that went down at my house as a child. My parents used to hide the good shit in the oven when guests came over. My mom would set the hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, and chicken out on the table. But if my dad made some steaks, salmon, shish kabobs, pork chops, or something like that on the grill..., that was considered "special." We wasn't sharing that shit. I will never forget going to my mom's [white] coworker's place for a BBQ when I was like 12 and they had jumbo shrimp. I looked dead at that lady when I was making my plate, pointed to the shrimp and said "is that for everybody?" She was like "sure." My mom was soooooo embarrassed. I think the color drained from her face.

I am actually crying tears laughing that it was normal in my family to hide meat in the oven. I would call my mom and talk shit if it wasn't so late
