The first glimpse into Spike Lee's film "Chiraq" was revealed to the public Tuesday as the official trailer was released.
Punctuated by the sound of gunshots, the trailer confirms the film's focus on gun violence in Chicago. It opens with a narrator saying, "Homicides in Chicago, Illinois, have surpassed the death toll of American Special Forces in Iraq," followed by the proclamation, "Welcome to Chiraq."
The film is set to be released on Dec. 4 in select theaters, according to an Instagram post from Lee on Friday.
During the filming and the days leading up to the film's release, Lee offered few details about the plot or nature of the film. A May report from Screen Daily, however, claimed "Chiraq" would be a reimagined production of the ancient Greek comedy "Lysistrata," a story in women withhold sexual privileges to try to stop the Peloponnesian War. Clips in the "Chiraq" trailer appear to confirm this report.
The movie was filmed in Chicago over the summer with many Chicagoans standing in as extras. It features several stars, including Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Teyonah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack, who appears to be a priest and activist, according to a shot in the trailer.
"Chiraq" is a slang term some use to compare America's third largest city to a war zone because of its violent crime. Its use as the name of the film was criticized heavily by some politicians, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who said it denigrates residents of Englewood and surrounding areas, where much of the movie was filmed.
Lee tried to quell the onslaught of criticism in May by telling Chicagoans to "see it first" before they offer negative comments.
"A lot of things have been said about this film, by people who know nothing about the film" Lee said in a past news conference. "A lot of people have opinions about the so-called title of the film. Again, they know nothing about the film."
The film, released by Amazon Studios, is the first-ever Amazon Original Movie. The company said the movie could be Lee's "greatest, and definitely his boldest, film yet."

Like i said in one of his album threads...it feels like ross is at the end of his career as far as being a top mainstream mc...
Im curious to know what yall think about him...personally it feels like he is the that jadakiss range...great albums, very skilled rapper but never that guy...
Pros...
-one of the most consistently good rappers for over a decade
-3 to 4 memorable albums if not classics (trilla, deeper than rap, teflon don, mastermind)
-consistently killed features (arguably had the best verse on the best rapper alives latest album life is good)
-soundly defeated one of the hottest rappers out in a beef at the time
-always worked with black artists and had sublime production
Cons...
-credibility issues everywhere...could never take him seriously
-on that point...never gave us a "william roberts" album...one that really felt authentic
-lot of good verses...never a great one with alot of bad ones
-production may become dated in the future

Nas To Executive Produce Sundace Film 'The Land' Starring Erykah Badu
Erykah Badu will star in an upcoming indie film titled The Land which will premiere next month at Sundance. The Land follows four Cleveland teenagers who aim to leave the city in pursuit of becoming professional skateboarders but become entangled in a drug operation. Nas is the film’s executive producer and is also providing the soundtrack.
Steve Caple Jr. is directing the upcoming film and Nas mentioned he was a fan in a statement saying: “[I’m a] huge fan of my man Steve Caple Jr. I think he can become the next great filmmaker. [I’m] also, very excited to be working with my former agent and friend Charles King on his first film with his new venture. All great energy around the film, which I believe will yield amazing results.”

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 11 Trailer
FX's beloved comedy series It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is taking us back to the '80s with their season 11 parody trailer. The teaser trailer is reminiscent of the film Hot Tub Time Machine mixed in with Funny or Die's Hunter L. Sander's Game of Thrones 1995 parody. The one minute trailer is hilarious and very wacky.
The trailer brings back those VHS vibes with a nice little touch of gaudy neon text, a fuzzy feel and cheesy one-liners. This isn't the first time the the show's trailers have been a little weird. The season 10 teaser was also odd with their Blaze of Glory title. The cast blasted off into space in bright yellow spandex suits. They're back to wearing spandex in this year's trailer.
In the season 11 sneak peek, the gang hits the slopes, parties hard, gets plenty of sexy time in a hot tub, and competes for a silver medal. "Let's take back this mountain," Dee (Kaitlin Olson) competitively says. The comedy series stars Danny DeVito, Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson.
