ATL Attorney Kills Wife Because He's Scared Of BLM

Atlanta lawyer Claud “Tex” McIver was driving with his wife Sunday night near Piedmont Park when their car hit a bump and a gun in his lap accidentally fired, killing his wife, a family spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Diane McIver was taken to Emory University Hospital on Clifton Road and died in surgery several hours later.

The incident unfolded after the McIvers vehicle was approached by several individuals near the intersection of Peachtree and Pine streets in Midtown, spokesman Bill Crane, a McIver family friend, said.

The McIvers retrieved their gun — a .38 snub-nose revolver — from the center console of the 2013 Ford Expedition, alarmed about recent unrest surrounding several Black Lives Matter protests in the area and fearing a carjacking, Crane told The AJC.

The couple, who were being driven by an unidentified individual, left the area unharmed. But several blocks later on Piedmont Ave. near the park, the SUV hit a bump and the gun fired, Crane said. It was still wrapped in a plastic Publix bag in which it had been stored, Crane said.

Crane said McIver does not remember firing the gun. He was leaning back in the seat and nodding off when they hit the bump, the gun in his lap, Crane said.

Tex McIver was in the SUV’s back seat. Diane McIver was seated in the front passenger seat.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner said she died of a gunshot wound to the back that had passed through the seat.

The couple had been traveling from their home in rural Putnam County to another in Buckhead. The driver exited at the Downtown Connector at Edgewood Avenue to avoid traffic, Crane said.

“It’s a tragedy. They are two great professionals, philanthropists,” Crane said.

Crane said Tex McIver is “under extreme duress. Trauma.”

Crane said the couple had not been drinking.

The Atlanta Police Department has said almost nothing about the case, which involves two prominent residents. They declined to elaborate on Friday.

They released an incident report of the shooting on Wednesday, more than two days after officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim at the university hospital.

“This is one of those situations we’re working through very slowly,” police Sgt. Warren Pickard said. “We want to get it right.”

The police report did not list who was in the SUV, other than Diane McIver. An officer talked to the driver, but didn’t include in the report what the driver said. Nor did the report say why the driver took the injured woman to a hospital on Clifton Road, 4 ½ miles away. Piedmont Hospital is less than half that distance from the shooting scene.

Diane McIver, whom one associate described as “extremely intellectual,” made a successful career as president of Corey Airport Services, an Atlanta-based marketing company.

Her husband, a partner in his firm, is vice president of the Georgia State Election Board. In August, he assumed another seat on another board. The American Bar Association appointed him to the advisory committee of the association’s Standing Committee on Gun Violence.

I wanted to get the IC's opinion on this.... I had to text Uncle @2stepz_ahead about this right after it happened.... Lets have a GNS conversation for once.....

So I get off work and go to school to knock out an exam, I go to the lounge real quick to say what up to some friends. They leave and it's me and 2 other cats an indian dude and a white dude. The indian guy is on the phone and proceeds to start referring to his ahem "niggas", he doesn't notice me in the room, the white guy's face gets all red and he dips out. The indian guy says it a few more times talking to his boys. I go over and pull him to the side and check him for that. He says sorry and says he doesn't mean any disrespect says his friends are all black but he gets it blah blah blah. We agree to disagree.

So it had me wondering, now I asked my boys, they were mixed on the topic. One of em said he don't care to him it's the context but he lets cats know just cuz he don't care doesn't mean other niggas don't and won't do him trouble. Another said that's a no go, etc etc.

Where does the IC stand on other races saying the N word ? Do yall care ? Do yall check em ? Is it really "just a word" ?

While new music was rumored to be headed our way almost a year ago (but hey, who’s keeping track?), recent celebrity endorsements — Chance the Rapper called it “amazing” and James Blake said the album is “better” than Ocean’s previous work — mean we might be listening to something fresh tomorrow.

Stay woke.

A barbershop conversation between Steve Stoute, Future, Ebro, James Harden, and Maverick Carter popped up on Instagram recently. The trendsetters debated whether the masses revered Jay Z’s classic debut, Reasonable Doubt, when first released in 1996. According to Future, “Jay Z wasn’t great when Tupac and Biggie were alive.” The discussion inspired the final #DXBreakdown of 2016, where we celebrate Ready To Die and Life After Death, and argue why Biggie Ain’t The GOAT.

Is the Notorious B.I.G. still the greatest ever? Share your thoughts in the Community Section below. Follow the discussion on all socials. #DXBreakdown

Woman Shoots Boyfriend In Head While He's Driving

Martina%20Westcott%20boyfriend%20driving_1483023440036_2477173_ver1.0_640_360.png

A 27-year-old woman turned herself in to police on Wednesday and was charged with shooting her boyfriend on Tuesday in a moving SUV, which then crashed in Germantown, Homicide Capt. James Clark said.

Terrell Bruce, 33, and Martina Westcott were arguing inside the Ford Expedition on Tuesday afternoon. They were on the 500 block of Walnut Lane when Westcott shot Bruce in the head, police said.

The shooting caused an accident with another vehicle around 12:30 p.m., and the Expedition overturned, police said.

Police arrived within minutes and found Bruce, a real estate agent who lived in the 900 block of East Hortter Street, unresponsive in the SUV, according to police. Police have not said who was driving the Expedition.

Medics determined that Bruce had been shot once in the right temple and pronounced him dead at 12:35 p.m., police said.

Bruce graduated from La Salle University in 2008, said his twin brother, Brandon, who was on vacation in Europe when he learned about his brother's death.
"Terrell was a man of many talents. He knew he wanted to make a change in people's lives," said Brandon Bruce, a lawyer who works as a regulatory counsel at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Maryland.

Brandon Bruce said his brother wanted to stay in Philadelphia and help people gain homeownership and financial independence.

Westcott, a graduate of Central High School and the University of Pennsylvania, was charged Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon Bruce said he did not know Westcott and disputed the police characterization that she was his brother's girlfriend. He said more attention should be paid to gun violence and stricter gun regulations.

The fraternal twins were born in Philadelphia — Brandon seven minutes ahead of Terrell — and grew up in an East Mount Airy house that Terrell Bruce later bought and lived in. The brothers graduated from Roxborough High School in 2001.

Their mother died when they were 13. In 2009, their younger brother, Nathaniel Kirkland, drowned in Guatemala during a service mission for dikkinson College, Brandon Bruce said Wednesday night from Vienna, Austria.

Terrell Bruce established a scholarship foundation to honor Nathaniel.

Bruce's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
