How to Break the Living Paycheck-to-Paycheck Cycle

TLDR so I'm posting some good points, feel free to read the rest and tell me what you think. I'm kind of going through this right now.
By: Trent Hamm

Look for Regular Expenses You Can Trim Away

The first big step is to trim your monthly expenses. Reduce that cable bill and that cell phone bill. Get rid of unused memberships, like gym memberships or country club memberships. Look for ways to tone down your home energy use. Start a carpool or start using public transportation. Start cooking at home more and eating out less. All of these things will ease the monthly pressure on your wallet, allowing you to stop feeling like you’re falling behind and instead start getting ahead a little.

Cap Your Non-Essential Spending Each Month
We all spend some money on things we don’t really need. Instead of just spending as opportunities arise, put a cap on that spending each month. Allow you and your spouse a cash allowance each month and agree that your discretionary spending comes from this cash and this cash alone. Make the amount lower than what you normally spend, but not enough lower that you’re tempted to cheat. Then, when you’re used to the amount, consider lowering it a bit more until you find a sweet spot of savings and fun.

As You Gain Some Breathing Room, Move Towards Paying Bills Right When They Come In

One thing that many people living paycheck to paycheck waste money on is late fees. You’re a couple days late on a bill because you were waiting around for your paycheck, so you’re dinged for an extra five bucks. It used to happen to me all the time—and it was a serious money leak. The best solution for handling this as you move towards financial stability is to start paying your bills as soon as they come in–that way, you avoid the late fees by a mile. Later on, as you get more comfortable, you can develop your own bill-paying routine–I pay mine monthly–but the best way to handle things just as you’re getting some cash built up in your account is to pay bills ASAP.

Don't Carry more Than One Credit Card with you

Leave the rest at home. The only reason you should be carrying a credit card in your pocket is to cover emergencies or for specific purchases. Thus, carrying more than one credit card in your wallet is not only an identity theft concern, it’s also temptation to spend more than you should.
I personally have three credit cards. Two of them are for specific purchases only, so I leave them at home. The other is my general use card, and it’s the only one that resides actively in my wallet. Because I recognize that I need to keep a healthy free balance on it for emergencies, it makes the temptation of the plastic much lower.

A barbershop conversation between Steve Stoute, Future, Ebro, James Harden, and Maverick Carter popped up on Instagram recently. The trendsetters debated whether the masses revered Jay Z’s classic debut, Reasonable Doubt, when first released in 1996. According to Future, “Jay Z wasn’t great when Tupac and Biggie were alive.” The discussion inspired the final #DXBreakdown of 2016, where we celebrate Ready To Die and Life After Death, and argue why Biggie Ain’t The GOAT.

Is the Notorious B.I.G. still the greatest ever? Share your thoughts in the Community Section below. Follow the discussion on all socials. #DXBreakdown

DJ Scratch Airs Out EPMD For Being Too Cheap To Pay Him

http://hiphopdx.com/news/id.41878/title.dj-scratch-airs-out-epmd-for-being-too-cheap-to-pay-him

New Year’s resolutions are supposed to be all about leaving the past 365 days behind and looking forward to a brighter future. Longtime EPMD DJ/collaborator DJ Scratch did just that to ring in 2017, but not before dousing Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith with gallons of ether over what he says was shady business.

The Brookly-bred producer, who’s just as renowned for his work with Busta Rhymes as EPMD, kicks off his “#2016WrapUp” by looking back at the close of his 2015, which he says was the end of his interactions with the legendary Hip Hop duo.

“A year ago tonight was the last show I did with my former group,” he began. “I was tired of the lies, the money stealing & the sneaking around doing shows without me to keep more bread in their pockets meanwhile RUINING the brand!! So here’s my 2016 Wrap Up: Rite after I left the group I upgraded & relaunched ScratchVision.com, went on a world tour of my own. Then was the opening act for Beyonce’s tour. Signed a endorsement deal with Monster Energy, then went on the Monster Energy tour (Still on tour). Launched my own App, then I was knighted a Grandmaster by Kool Herc. Then did the scratches on the album of the year (A Tribe Called Quest) & to top it all off I am now the special guest tour DJ with ATCQ. I left a group who couldn’t afford to pay one DJ & joined a group who can afford to pay 2 DJ’s. So for now on I’ll stick with the group that makes $100,000 minimum per show instead of the group that makes $6,000 maximum per show. For 2017 remove the toxic energy out of your life & watch how many blessings you’ll receive. Happy New Year!!! Never get bitter, just get better!! They thought they buried me, but they forgot I was a seed!!”

Scratch started working with EPMD back on the Long Island duo’s 1989 sophomore album, Unfinished Business and also contributed to Business as Usual, Business Never Personal and more. To say his revelation is the end of an era would be an understatement, but his upcoming 2017 with ATCQ should prove to be alright. Q-Tip recently stated that the group intends to continue making music in the wake of Phife Dawg’s passing and their celebrated comeback LP, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service.

A 27-year-old woman turned herself in to police on Wednesday and was charged with shooting her boyfriend on Tuesday in a moving SUV, which then crashed in Germantown, Homicide Capt. James Clark said.

Terrell Bruce, 33, and Martina Westcott were arguing inside the Ford Expedition on Tuesday afternoon. They were on the 500 block of Walnut Lane when Westcott shot Bruce in the head, police said.

The shooting caused an accident with another vehicle around 12:30 p.m., and the Expedition overturned, police said.

A semiautomatic handgun was found in the leaves near the Walnut Street Bridge by police investigating Tuesday's shooting and automobile crash. DAVID SWANSON / Staff Photographer
Police arrived within minutes and found Bruce, a real estate agent who lived in the 900 block of East Hortter Street, unresponsive in the SUV, according to police. Police have not said who was driving the Expedition.

Medics determined that Bruce had been shot once in the right temple and pronounced him dead at 12:35 p.m., police said.

Bruce graduated from La Salle University in 2008, said his twin brother, Brandon, who was on vacation in Europe when he learned about his brother's death.
"Terrell was a man of many talents. He knew he wanted to make a change in people's lives," said Brandon Bruce, a lawyer who works as a regulatory counsel at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Maryland.

Brandon Bruce said his brother wanted to stay in Philadelphia and help people gain homeownership and financial independence.

Westcott, a graduate of Central High School and the University of Pennsylvania, was charged Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon Bruce said he did not know Westcott and disputed the police characterization that she was his brother's girlfriend. He said more attention should be paid to gun violence and stricter gun regulations.

The fraternal twins were born in Philadelphia — Brandon seven minutes ahead of Terrell — and grew up in an East Mount Airy house that Terrell Bruce later bought and lived in. The brothers graduated from Roxborough High School in 2001.

Their mother died when they were 13. In 2009, their younger brother, Nathaniel Kirkland, drowned in Guatemala during a service mission for dikkinson College, Brandon Bruce said Wednesday night from Vienna, Austria.

Terrell Bruce established a scholarship foundation to honor Nathaniel.

Bruce's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.

Video shows confrontation between Black Panthers group and police

Group says it's being harassed; MPD says it arrested man with outstanding bench warrant

MILWAUKEE —
Members of a Black Panthers group that has been seen openly carrying firearms in the streets of Milwaukee at least twice in recent weeks says its constitutional rights were violated after a confrontation with police.

The confrontation was captured on smartphone video outside a store at 27th Street and Fond du Lac Avenue.

Members of the group said they were openly carrying firearms legally and were harassed by police during a food distribution program.

In response, the Milwaukee Police Department issued a statement, saying, "Milwaukee police responded to a subject with a gun call. Officers monitored a group of armed demonstrators and encountered a subject who was unsafely handling a firearm."

Police said it turned out the man was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant, and they arrested him.

Police took one shotgun, and the group is crying foul.

"Weapons were taken illegally, one of which was returned," said Vaun Mayes, of the Revolutionary Black Panther Party.

"Our mission with the Revolutionary Black Panther Party is simple. It's to help feed, clothe, train, shelter and defend our people. And we have the right to do that without any interruption, without any harassment, without any terrorism," said Jamal Canon, of the Revolutionary Black Panther Party.

"Because we open carry, it does not mean we are looking for a fight. We are peaceful unless we need to be otherwise," Mayes said.

The group also said an officer struck a 10-year-old girl with his elbow.

Police said they reached out to the family of the injured girl, and the family hasn't responded.

Milwaukee police said the shotgun that was seized was inventoried for safekeeping.

The Revolutionary Black Panthers voiced their complaints Thursday outside Milwaukee Police District 3 station.

Revolutionary Black Panther Party Threaten $400 Million Lawsuit Against Milwaukee

The city of Milwaukee was threatened today with a lawsuit seeking damages running into nine figures.

The threat comes from the Revolutionary Black Panther Party.

The party said it is suing over what happened Wednesday afternoon at 27th and Fond du Lac.

They are asking for $400 million.

The group said they were handing out food to the community and Milwaukee Police showed up and arrested a man taking his gun.

Police said he was handing it unsafely and found to have an open arrest warrant.

The Black Panthers claim an MPD officer elbowed a 10-year-old girl in the face.

They told us they are planning on filing charges against that officer.

The Revolutionary Black Panther Party plans on suing not only the police department, but also Chief Ed Flynn, the officers involved on Wednesday and the city of Milwaukee.

The suit will allege that their civil and constitutional rights were violated.

We have reached out to Milwaukee Police and Chief Flynn for a response but have not heard back.

The Black Panthers said they are currently pursuing this litigation.

They have not said when they'll actually file the paperwork.

5th Letter- Where are you from?

texas409- From a city called Beaumont Tx

5th Letter- What's it like there?

texas409- Its a small city on the border of Texas/Louisiana. Its actually a boom town due to the Spindletop eruption in 1900. The eruption occurred on a black farmers land and he sold the property to an oil and gas company for $50,000 at that time that was big money so he took it. Beaumont was actually supposed to be what we know as Houston but things didnt work out that way so the rest is history.

5th Letter- What was your early life like?

texas409- Early life was cool me and my brother were kind of knuckleheads and . Pops got a good gig and moved us out the hood. Moms and Dad were kinda on the outs so they divorced when I was 11. From then on we were the men of the house. We made due and had great times and Mama took care of us the best she could. Brother went off to the Navy and I took a liking to football and made that my main focus. I was pretty good in high school and had the city on smash with all the perks that came with it. My grades were decent so I did get the major schools chirping but I didnt get a scholarship at a JUCO here in Texas. Lol Moms was tired of me at that point and kicked me out the crib two weeks after I graduated high school so I found a job and a place out there at 17 and never looked back....

5th Letter- What in your opinion stopped you from going further with football?

texas409- I didnt have my head in the game literally. I had alot going on with family plus the school where I was at had limited scholarship funds and they went with they thought were the most committed players at that time

5th Letter- You said you had family issues what else had you distracted

texas409- Pussy and getting drunk and high negro duh!!!! lol

5th Letter- If you don't mind answering what do you do for a living?

texas409- I work in Operation in the oil and gas industry

5th Letter- What's that like how did you get into that field?

texas409- I got into it because its what the majority of the good paying jobs are here in Texas outside of being Doctors or Lawyers. It pays very well but its also where alot of the rednecks and racist work too so it has its perks and headaches

5th Letter- Did you ever have any issues dealing with those racists on the job?

texas409- Of course not just from whites but Hispanics too but when you stand up for yourself they shut that shit up. Real talk Obama had these rednecks out here shook for real

5th Letter- How were they shook?

texas409- Come on bruh a black man as the leader of the free world? They thought he was coming for their guns and oil

5th Letter- How did you get into hip hop?

texas409- I always been a fan I was born in 83 and witnessed the beginning of Slick Rick Run Dmc and LL. Then from them it was NWA and Too Short. I've been a fan of every era and every wave. Being from a small city in Texas we kept up with everything from the east to the west coast. My favorite artist of all time is Jay. Hands down dude is the classic Hip Hop representative flow, swagger, style. I was the first person at my school telling people about Vol.1 and 2 and folks used to clown cause we all were big DJ Screw and SUC heads at the time. But Highschool was different and he caught my ear and I knew he was the dopest. Next thing boys see was him on MTV with UGK and that blew our minds because they were from Port Arthur which is literally 15 minutes away from Beaumont. I love all music honestly but Hip Hop marinates in my bones

5th Letter- How did you become a Jay Z fan?

texas409- Cause he could spit and had raw talent plus he wasn't picking those boom bap Wack ass beats that were coming out of the East Coast at the time. Us down south folks like a good beat just as much as a good rhyme and he had that

5th Letter- Speaking on that what are your thoughts on the up north/south debate?

texas409- I think both regions has its gems and it has its flaws. But I will always give the East Coast it's props for pioneering the movement and I think East Coast folks need to give us our props for what we contribute to the culture and it has to be said that we supported Hip Hop from the beginning stages

5th Letter- Who are your favorite and least favorite rappers?

texas409- Favorites: Jay, LL, Common, Cube, Snoop, Bun B, Drake, Zro, Slim Thug, Eminem, Kendrick, Redman, Dmx, Juvenile, T. I.

Least: Young Thug, WuTang, Future, Ab Soul, Yachty, Uzi vert, French Montana, KRS one, Ja Rule, Current Kanye

5th Letter- What are some of your favorite albums?

texas409- Bone Thugs E 1999 Eternal, The Fugees The Score, 2pac All Eyes On Me, DMX its Dark and Hell is Hot, Biggie Ready 2 Die, Jay vol 2 Hard Knock Life, The Blueprint, American Gangster, The Black Album, Nas Life IS Good, Juvenile 400 Degreez, Common BE, Finding Forever. just to name a few

5th Letter- What are your thoughts on today's hip hop?

texas409- TRASH. Outside of Drake Kendrick and J Cole. I like Big Sean also dude makes good music
