A volleyball coach, 21, has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old student. Cassandra Rose Elfers, who works for Phillip Sharp Middle School of Pendleton County School District, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse,b. She turned herself in on Friday and also quit her full-time job as a waitress at Eduardo's Pizza and Subs in Falmouth.
Elfers is from the same school district as former Bengals cheerleader and Dixie Heights High School teacher Sarah Jones, who last year was convicted of sexual misconduct. She last year pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal and avoided jail. Elfers was charged under a five-year-old statute that makes it a felony for a person in a supervisory position, such as coach or teacher or caretaker, to have sex with a student who is under 18.
The age of consent in Kentucky is 16. She is being held on $2,500 and will appear in court this week. School Superintendent Anthony Strong told Cincinnati.com that his district became aware last Sunday of rumors that a part-time coach may have been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student.
They took immediate action to ensure no other contact was made between the student and coach and informed police.
